This National Geographic award-winning experience combines the best of Sweden’s most southerly wilderness and adventure without compromising on comfort. You will build your own timber raft (a la Tom Sawyer) out of logs and ropes (under professional supervision) and go down the Klarälven River. You’ll pass by local villages at your own leisurely pace, take an active part in the cooking of meals – where dishes will be inspired by local specialties – and get a chance to connect with nature once more.

This trip minimizes the negative impacts on nature and culture by reusing logs and equipment, supports the local economy, operates in an environmentally sustainable manner, contributes actively to the protection of nature and culture including local wind power projects, utilizes effective interpretation skills and knowledge, and ensure quality and security while quests are traveling.

Day 1Arrive at Klaralvens Camping

About 2 hours north of Karlstad, you’ll check in to theKlarälvens Camping’s grounds. Later in the day, you will meet the instructor at the riverside, who will provide instructions for the next few days and teach you how to build your own timber raft, just using logs and rope. You will be provided with information about wildlife and nature public access points and be introduced to the specialty Kolbullare in with which you prepare over an open fire in the evening.

Day 2Rafting

After breakfast, you’ll be transported to the shore where you will construct your steady timber raft. The raft will be built in the water and when you need it, an experienced instructor will give you a hand. Sometime in the afternoon, you will be ready to start your timber rafting adventure on the river. Take your time and explore the area’s natural beauty and meet the residents of the villages. You will go on your own but will be met at the campsite where you’ll have a prepared camp and a barbeque dinner waiting for you.

Day 3Rafting

Your guide will serve you breakfast at the camp and afterward, you’ll pack your personal equipment on the raft and set off. You’ll spend the whole day on the raft, slowly drifting on the river. You will have time to enjoy nature, but you also have to watch out for sandbanks, eddies, and stones which may suddenly show up! Enjoy and at the end of this night, you’ll arrive at your cottage at Klarälvens Camping again. Dinner will be served at the Värmlandsporten Hotel at 7 p.m after which you will have time to relax and enjoy a sauna down by the river.

Day 4Rafting and Departure

After breakfast, you’ll continue to the final destination of Björkebo, where you will dismantle the raft. Onward transport to your next destination in Sweden can be arranged.
