Thanks to its privileged location in the Indian Ocean, this Mauritius tour explores the melting pot of cultures between Indians, Africans, Europeans, and Chinese.  Imagine how it feels and looks if we tell you that Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists live peacefully side by side.

Then, gastronomy comes into play with delicious fried noodles, biryanis, faratas and pains au chocolat that all find their place in every Mauritian home, making them even better with a Creole touch.

This comprehensive immersion into Mauritius’ culture will bring you through community-led and designed projects, ensuring that your travel choices benefit those who need it most.

All Mauritius partners have been assessed with a Conscious Travel Assessment, which is an independent evaluation demanding evidence of their usual practices and engagements, with the aim to validate their efforts towards sustainability.  Businesses are examined in the criteria concerning their direct operations, covering environmental, social, economic, ethical and authenticity aspects.

Partners are committed to offering authentic holiday products with a direct link to Mauritian culture, heritage or history, CO2-free alternatives to commercial tourist activities along with public transport routes to reach them, as part of a carbon offsetting plan, defending animal welfare, discarding activities that deprive animals of their natural rights or that are invasive to their natural habitats, shaping trips that provide a minimum of 15% of the revenue generated to local micro-enterprises or NGOs, and promoting a conscious network composed of at least 80% of small and medium enterprises (max. 250 employees) set up independently and run by the local community.

Day 1Arrival

Upon arrival and car pickup, you will drive and check-in to a boutique guest house that offers the perfect balance between two worlds: authentic hospitality and a laid-back chic touch. You’ll stay here for 5 nights and will be at a short walk from a favorite beach on the North, as well as from a responsible Diving Center, restaurants, bus stop and other dynamic villages like Grand Baie. Today, you are choosing to support family-run businesses and artisans.

Day 2Poudre D'Or

Welcome the wooden boats bringing the catch of the day, meet a fisherman knitting his bamboo net and discover the spiritual realities of Mauritius through its Hindu temples. To finish on a high note, Mauritian tea will be served in a very special place. Today is all about cultural immersion and heritage preservation. Free afternoon.

Day 3Port Louis

Continuing on the cultural heritage preservation theme, today you will experience the Mauritian way of living by sampling typical Mauritian dishes: steamed dumplings in succulent broth, rotis – Indian crêpes filled with cooked vegetables and spices, grilled peanuts and, for those who are a little daring, gato pima, deep fried chilly cakes. Free afternoon.

Day 4Meal at Rosemonde's Home

Today, you are choosing to support women’s empowerment efforts. You’ll visit the weekly fresh market to handpick the ingredients you will cook with Rosemonde. A delicious curry preparation follows, filled with the aromas, talk and music that you can only experience in the kitchen of a Mauritian Creole. Free afternoon.

Day 5 Free day

Today, you may choose to relax or go souvenir shopping at Grand Baie.

Day 6Vanilla Village

Today, you will drive to the charming Vanilla Village and check in to a boutique guest house, with its health-conscious café, kids playground, and handicrafts shop with products 100% made in Mauritius. Its privileged location in the region of Black River allows you to enjoy the beaches, mountains and villages of Le Morne, Chamarel and the Black River Gorges at a short car ride.

Later in the afternoon, there will be wine tasting of Mauritius organic wine somewhere between the West of the Sun and the East of the Moon. Learn the elaboration process during the visit and enjoy the tasting of our unique and organic Mauritian wine made of litchis.

Day 7Chamarel by E-Bike

A round immersion into the lively village of Chamarel. Riding your electric bike you will visit an agricultural rum distillery and learn the process from sugarcane to spirit. Your local guide will take you through the Earth of 7 Colors and Chamarel Waterfall, and continue the ride towards the south coast, down the meandering Fantasie Road. Just in time for an energy intake you will arrive to a typical shack by the coast, where you’ll be invited for a traditional lunch. Your comprehensive tour will end in the old sugar state of Bel Ombre. Free afternoon.

Day 8Tea, Rum & Vanilla Route

From all art expressions, food and beverage is Mauritius’ specialty. A visit to the authentic places within this Route assures you a complete cultural immersion, a very happy belly and gorgeous scenery. Enjoy guided visits in 3 stops: The colonial house of Domaine des Aubineaux; the tea plantation of Bois Cheri; and the artisanal rum distillery of Domaine de St. Aubin, where you will be invited for a gourmet 3 course Mauritian lunch (included).

Day 9 E-Biking Historic Old Port

Guided e-biking tour of the most traditional coast of Mauritius, exploring the traditional coastal villages of Mahébourg, Ferney, Vieux Grand Port and Bois des Amourettes. Meet old Mauritian characters, handicraft artisans and Dutch ruins in between. Electric bikes help you cover a long distance with their integrated electric motors. In between your stops you will enjoy a delicious lunch at the Falaise Rouge Restaurant. Free afternoon.
