Right after having our traditional Nicaraguan breakfast ¨Gallo pinto, fresh cheese, corn tortilla, fried eggs and a nice cup of coffee¨ we will depart from our hotel to drive northwest, first stopping in Nagarote, a small village known for its authentic ¨Quesillos¨, a delicious combination of fresh corn tortillas, local mozzarella cheese, pickled onions and sour cream. Afterwards, we head towards the colonial city of Leon. On the way you will see Yucca growing one of the essential ingredients of the National dish, Vigoron, which you will prepare.
In Leon we will visit Nicaragua´s largest Cathedral, the City center and art museum Ortiz Gurdian. Then we will drive to the Pacific Ocean where we can enjoy either a succulent fresh whole fried fish with tomato sauce or a traditional seafood soup with fish, shrimp, crab, clams and lobster.
After this seafood indulgence, we will take a boat and visit Isla Juan Venado natural reserve. Here we have the chance to see different types of mangroves as well as birds, iguanas, insects and if we are lucky spectacled caimans. Then we drive to the Colonial City of Leon. In the evening we will have our dinner at ¨Al Carbon¨, a spacious Colonial house which specializes in charcoaled grilled beef. Here we can try a delicious local beef steak with grilled potatoes, fried plantains, beans, chimichurri sauce and the traditional pico de gallo. Then back to the hotel. (Approx. 3 hour drive on highway)
