Airport in Amman, Jordan
Min Age : 12+

As a result of being at the junction of Europe, Africa, and Asia, Jordan has spectacularly varied terrain – from forests to deserts – as well as a long history of hospitality and culinary traditions.

During this 9-day fully guided experiential tour, all of your senses will be tantalized and charmed by Jordan’s people, food, vistas, history, and sustainable tourism efforts.  Also, you may even begin to think of yourself as the Lawrence of Arabia (or Gertrude Bell) of the 21st century and wonder why it took you so long to fulfill this part of your travel bucket list.  Read my review of our trip to Jordan.

At its core, our partner in Jordan believes making a profit and social development are not mutually exclusive. They seek to apply the United Nations Global Development Goals throughout their company identifying areas where it can contribute to local economies and make a difference.  Examples include:

  • Helping with the development of the Jordan Trail, which has generated income for smaller, poorer communities throughout Jordan.  Specifically, in 2014 and 2015 a member of their team, Amjad, spent his time hiking and mapping the length of the entire country.  This work, combined with the work of other companies, hikers, and guides from across Jordan, led to the establishment of a national trail association and today, the Jordan Trail, consisting of a 630 km, 36-day hiking trail (can be divided into sections) is considered to be one of the best hiking trails in the world.  One section of the hike, from Dana to Petra has been acknowledged by National Geographic as one of the top ten multi-day hikes in the world.
  • Out of a love for nature, the company started weekly hikes and cultural experiences every weekend, where tourists, expats, and local Jordanians could come together, get out of the city of Amman and experience Jordan’s lesser known treasures. On each of these trips, staff teach people about the philosophy of “Leave No Trace”, and spread the word about keeping the country clean. Each hike finishes with the collecting of extra trash.

Day 1Arrival in Amman

Arrive at Amman Airport, where you will be met, assisted with immigration and then transferred to your hotel where you will stay for the next 3 nighs. Amman is one of the oldest cities in the world, inhabited since the Bronze age. The city is growing into a modern city but retains its character and history. After some rest, you will have a welcome dinner in a lovely, local restaurant with your private guide who will go over your program and schedule this week.

Day 2Amman City & Food Tasting Tour

This morning, you will start your city tour of Amman by exploring the historical side of the city. You’ll wander in the Roman Amphitheater and visit the Jordan Folklore Museum and Citadel. There will be free time to walk around the fruit market
and explore the downtown during a typical afternoon. As you walk in the market, your guide will make multiple stops so you can sample different traditional Jordanian foods; such as hummus, falafel, and sweets. Afterward, you will stop at Jabal al-Weibdeh, one of Amman’s oldest neighborhoods, to explore some art galleries, museums, and local antiquities and handcraft shops. We may even have time to stop along the way in one of the café’s for a cup of tea. Then, we’ll head back to your hotel to relax after a
day spent exploring the capital city.

Day 3Beit Khayrat Souf

After breakfast, you’ll head north to a small town in Jerash called Souf, where you will spend a few hours in the company of the local women of Beit Khayraf Souf. After a briefing about the project, you will begin to prepare one of the many varieties of jam, which you can take home with you. As your jam cooks, you will have a cooking class and learn to prepare some of the traditional Jordanian dishes. Then, once everything is set for cooking, you will go for a walk to one of the farms owned by the women and their families and collect some seasonal fruits or vegetables.

You’ll head back to the Beit Khayrat Souf where your lunch awaits and after enjoying your meal, you’ll pack your jam before returning to Amman with lots of great moments, experiences, and recipes from Souf.

Note: a visit to the Roman site of Jerash is optional as time permits.

Day 4Madaba, Mount Nebo & Jesus' Baptism Site

Depart from your hotel in Amman early this morning as you have a long day ahead of you. First, we’ll drive to the town of Madaba and discover the amazing Byzantine mosaics excavated throughout the town. See the ‘Madaba Map’, which is the oldest preserved mosaic map of the Holy Lands.

Then, we’ll drive to Mount Nebo and wonder at the view where Moses looked across to the Promised Land and later died and was buried. Afterward, journey back through Jesus’ life and visit the site where he was baptized. Supported by many biblical, archeological, and historical evidence, Bethany Beyond the Jordan was recognized as the authentic site of Jesus’ baptism.

Then, we’ll transfer to Feynan Ecolodge, which is considered to be one of the top 10 rated ecolodges in the world as rated by National Geographic. Upon arrival, we’ll have a guided sunset walk (20-30 min.) up to a nearby hilltop. Once there, you’ll enjoy freshly made Bedouin tea and stunning views westwards as the sun sets over the vast Wadi Araba desert. The sunset walk is well worth the visit.

Day 5 Feynan Local Experience

After breakfast at Feynan Ecolodge, you will have a range of activities to choose from that morning so that you can get a better idea of Bedouin life. Options include short hikes, having coffee, or even cooking an authentic vegetarian meal.

After lunch, you will proceed to Petra to spend the next two nights.

Day 6Petra

A masterpiece half as old as time; the Red Rose city of Petra, you will marvel at its beauty and get a chance to explore its many caves and tombs. You’ll walk through the Siq and be astounded at the magnificent Treasury, which was the entrance guarding the ancient Nabatean city and now one of the Modern 7 Wonders of the World. You’ll have time to explore the city further, visiting the Royal Tombs, the high place of sacrifice or Monastery.

Day 7Wadi Rum Jeep Tour

After breakfast, we’ll drive to Al Beidha, better known as Little Petra. Little Petra was an important suburb of Petra, the entry and exit point for the trade routes to the north and north-west.

We’ll then proceed to Wadi Rum, where you will enjoy the wilderness adventure of a 4X4 Jeep tour in the enchanting desert following the footsteps of the famous Lawrence of Arabia. The Jeep tour will allow you to travel around Wadi Rum’s valleys, canyons, dunes, and deserts so you can discover its rock inscriptions, majestic views, mountains, landscapes, and narrow gorges.

Your day concludes by spending the night in the peaceful desert and enjoying the hospitality of the Bedouins.

Day 8Dead Sea

After having breakfast in Wadi Rum, we’ll then drive to the lowest point on earth to float and relax at the Dead Sea. Enjoy the sunshine and view while trying out an invigorating mud bath to cleanse the skin.

Day 9 Dead Sea & Departure

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. There will be time to float again in the salty waters of the Dead Sea, relax by the pool, and experience the various treatments in the spa.

After this relaxing finish to your tour, you’ll depart and proceed to the Queen Alia International Airport with many wonderful memories of Jordan.
