Compact and diverse, Melbourne and the state of Victoria is a perfect playground for adventurers and wildlife lovers, foodies and road trippers. Discover remote beaches and rugged coastlines, alpine outlooks, and lush forests, all within easy reach of Melbourne, Australia’s culinary capital.

See kangaroos and koalas on guided wildlife walks, enjoy organic dining from the kitchen gardens, learn about sustainability and explore the nearby beaches and rainforests.

After a couple of days exploring Melbourne, you’ll take a guided journey along the most scenic Great Ocean Road.  Your guide will pick you up from your Melbourne hotel in the morning and show you the sights along the way.  Settle in at the ecolodge with afternoon tea and join an ecologist on a guided walk through beautiful bushland to observe the wild kangaroos, koalas, and birdlife which inhabit the region. This twilight nature walk is exclusive to the guests at the lodge.

Share dinner specially prepared from the extensive kitchen gardens. Taste a selection of wines from the local region.  Take a picnic lunch and spend time exploring the coastal walks or simply relax. Visit the Lighthouse for a guided tour or head out on a bushwalk to Blanket Bay. During low tide, follow the beach track near the lighthouse and look for rock pools.  See the famous Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge, which are ancient rock sculptures rising out of the wild Great Southern Ocean.

The Great Ocean Ecolodge is a social enterprise, established and operated by the Conservation Ecology Centre. All profits are invested into wildlife conservation and the Ecolodge itself is entirely solar powered and ecologically responsible, resting gently in the landscape.

Stay in the award-winning eco retreat, venture out into the bush with researchers to help save endangered species, explore the Great Ocean Walk, indulge in the region’s finest local produce or just relax in the dappled shade of the eucalyptus.

Day 1 Melbourne

Upon arrival and check-in at your hotel for a bit of a rest, you’ll be picked up in the afternoon for a tour of the Royal Botanic Gardens where a local Aboriginal guide will lead you on a walking tour that incorporates the themes of spirit, connection, and land. You’ll be treated to a traditional smoking ceremony and lemon myrtle tea. Later, you’ll walk to a local hotspot for dinner.

Day 2Melbourne Alternative City Tour & Wine Tasting

After a free morning, you’ll be taken on a walking tour that really makes a difference. You’ll meet the authentic local people of Brunswick East, see how they work, and learn what they’re most passionate about. We’ll visit dedicated local roasters, urban beekeepers, colorful ethical design stores, bean-to-bar chocolate makers, devoted vintage bike makers, and a human-powered winery.
