Our partner engages with underpopulated, community organizations (artisans, farmers, homestays) in order to develop tourism in the Peloponnese region of Greece.  The focus is on low impact adventure activities, tree-planting, beach cleanup, and turtle conservation efforts.  The company aims to position the Pelopponese region as a renowned sustainability destination.

Day 1Athens

Upon your arrival in Athens, you will be met at the airport and transferred to the New Hotel, which is the first hotel project for award-winning designers Fernando and Humberto Campana, who designed the hotel an ethos of eco-sensitivity as well as extensive use of contemporary handicraft practices.

Depending on the arrival time, upon check-in and some time to relax, you will be taken on a guided tour of this classic city that was once the center of art, learning, and philosophy as well as the birthplace of democracy. The walking tour will take you to the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Ancient Agora, and the Plaka area. Overnight in Athens.

Note: If there is no time for the tour today, it will take place on the last day of the tour.

Day 2Mycenae & Epidaurus

After breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and begin the journey to the Peloponnese region of Greece. During the morning, you will have a guided tour of Mycenae and Epidaurus. ‘Rich in Gold’, the kingdom of the mythical Agamemnon who was first introduced by Homer in his epics, Mycenae is the most important and richest palatial center of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. Its name was given to one of the greatest civilizations of Greek prehistory, the Mycenaean civilization, while the myths related to its history have inspired epic poems and great tragedies from the Classical period to contemporary artistic creations.

You’ll then continue your guided tour to the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, perhaps the best-preserved theater of ancient Greece. It is still used today due to its amazing acoustics.

After a full morning, you’ll then check-in to the well situated and eco-luxury agritourism hotel surrounded by lush green landscapes, orange and olive trees. You can spend the afternoon relaxing or indulging in a horseback riding experience with an instructor who will lead you on a ride through traditional villages. Horseback riding can take place on an alternate day as well. No previous experience necessary. Overnight in hotel.

Day 3Nafplio Cycling Tour & Honey Making Experience

After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a guided biking tour of the town of Nafplio (the Naples of the East). Widely considered as the most romantic spot in Greece, the region is crammed onto a narrow peninsula with wonderful vistas, contains lots of Venetian architecture and its friendly residents make it a delight to wander.

The biking tour will begin at Palamidi castle and continue downhill toward the city and its surroundings. You’ll ride along a sandy beach and after enjoying a traditional picnic, you’ll continue past a cozy chapel toward amazing views of the Argolic Gulf.

In the afternoon, you will learn the secrets of Greek honey and ouzo distillation. You’ll visit a local distillery store, learn the characteristics of the famous Greek Ouzo and Tsipouro and taste traditional local distillations. Then, you’ll visit a traditional honey workshop whereby its owner, a beekeeper, will reveal the way that the beehives are maintained and harvested. You’ll taste unique kinds of honey and traditional sweets that feature honey as the main ingredient. Overnight in hotel.

Day 4Day Tour to Hydra

This morning, you will take a short boat ride as a day tour to enjoy the magical, pedestrian-only island of Hydra. A beautiful island surrounded by crystal clear waters and pine trees with ideal places for swimming. Hydra is the island that has inspired poets, writers, and artists. Back to the mainland. Overnight in hotel.

Day 5Agritourism Farm & Guesthouse

Today, you will continue further into the Peloponnese region to begin your stay at an organic Agritourism Farm & Guesthouse. The farm was built within an ancient olive grove with herb fields cultivated by the family since the 1890’s. Your stay will exemplify the values of sustainable farming along with high-quality service.

Upon arrival, you will have a guided walk to learn the plethora of wild herbs and feel the Greek spirit all around you. Later, you will enjoy a wine tasting experience of the Laconian grape varieties. You will learn about homeodynamic agriculture, the wine-making process and of course the history and culture of Greek wine. As you wind down the day, you’ll taste the varieties of wine as you overlook the Taygetos mountain range at sunset. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 6Cooking Class, Olive Oil Tastings & Soap Making

This morning, you’ll start by walking around the organic farm to harvest the vegetables that will be used during your cooking class. Under the supervision of local chefs, you will put together a seasonal meal of specialty dishes from the symphony of local products. Afterward, you will experience an olive oil tasting via a seminar where you will learn how olive oil is creating, why Laconic olive oil is so special (and sought after throughout the world) and of course taste this liquid gold. Then, you will learn how to make natural soap from organic olive oil and wild herbs utilizing the cold method which helps to capture all the nutrients. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 7Monemvasia Hiking

This morning, after breakfast, you will visit and hike through the historical and spectacular Monemvasia, which is famous for its castle. The rest of your day will be at your leisure. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 8 or Day 12 (if taking Extension to Poros Island)Athens & Departure

This morning you will return to Athens. If time allows, you will visit Athen’s tallest hill – Mount Lycabettus – to take it its spectacular views of the city, to the sea and the mountains of Peloponnese.

Day 8 (Extension Option)Poros Island

From the Agritourism Farm, you will be transferred to another paradise, Poros Island, to another sustainable hotel. The owners, a young couple, built this hotel as an expression for their love of nature, locally grown food, and people-centered experiences. Today, you will have a guided historical tour of Poros. You’ll wander through the small, picturesque streets of Poros town, observe locals and their customs, visit the most important church on the island and be provided with a brief explanation of the Orthodox traditions. Overnight in eco-hotel.

Day 9 (Extension Option)Methana Hiking

Today, you will enjoy a guided exploration of the flora and fauna of Methana. Methana is a peninsula that is barely joined with the mainland along a narrow corridor of land. It is far from the tourist beaten track and is known for a 3,000-year-old volcano and its 40 volcanic springs. The sulfur-rich waters around the town of Methana are very good for your body so if you are up for it, bring your swimsuit and take a dive in. For the more active ones, a hike on top of the volcano can let you admire breath-taking views of the Aegean sea and the surrounding islands. After the hike, visit the tiny fishing village of Vathi, where you can taste fresh fish and seafood in one of the local tavernas. There are also plenty of alternate hiking paths available for those that are up for it. Overnight in eco-hotel.

Day 10 (Extension Option)Troizina

Today, you’ll visit Ancient Troizina, known as the home to the mythical hero Theseus, the son of the king of Athens. You’ll visit the ruins of the ancient palace of Troizina and then hike to the Devil’s Bridge, a place of wild beauty. The ‘bridge’ itself has been naturally created by the creek running for millennia in the gorge beneath it. If you catch the place at its best, it can literally feel like a journey through a Lord of the Rings movie. Bring a swimsuit! Overnight in eco-hotel.

In the evening, you will learn to weave from a master who has been teaching how to weave using various fabrics and techniques for well over 15 years. You’ll learn about eco-weaving and use plastic bags and other recycled materials to make your own masterpiece. Overnight in eco-hotel.

Day 11 (Extension Option)Day of Sailing

Experience the crystal clear waters in an untouched natural setting on this day of sailing. Enjoy the privacy and the absence of mass tourism and visit the secluded beaches of Poros Island with a private sailing boat. Approachable only by sea and disconnected from the road network, the bays near the Monastery of Poros are a gem to be discovered by connoisseurs of simplicity and nature. Enjoy a unique alternative-tourism experience, combining sailing, swimming, snorkeling, and relaxation.
