Both living and working in the Lake District and it still rendering me speechless when seeing such amazing locations as Tarn Hows, the Langdale Valley, and Wastewater, I know how important it is to preserve this amazing landscape for years to come.
It is fantastic that more people than ever are coming to walk the fells and visit the Lake District, seeing this stunning part of the UK and so too local businesses benefits. But the increase in visitors brings an increase in footfall on fell paths, more vehicles on the roads, more waste.
Recently, I have been bowled over by the work and effort tourism operators, in particular, are working to help conservation of the Lake District countryside, to aid sustainability and to reduce carbon footprints. Even little implementations can help.
For years now I have to know the Langdale Estate have had the environment at the forefront of their business both in terms of the immediate fell environment and lowering carbon emissions. The latest project and what I think is such a great idea is the launching of a fleet of electric cars. The Renault Twizzy. Combining fun is always a good combination to try and entice people away from using cars whilst on holiday in the Lake District. They are available to hire from http://www.langdale.co.uk at just £10 per hour and they make the ideal way of getting about on the narrow roads in the Lakes, fun and great for the environment.
Not every accommodation provider will have the facilities for such a service but even reducing laundry, encouraging guests to use public transport and recycle where possible whilst on their holiday or short break all goes to help and preserve the Lake District for generations to come.
