Day 1: Arrival in Rovinj
You can arrive into Rovinj by train, car or ferry (from Venice, Italy) and upon arrival, you'll be met by a guide and transferred to your comfortable hotel in Rovinj. (Either Hotel Villa Tuttorotto or Villa Valdibora).
Day 2: Sea Kayak Rovinj Archipel & Walk Palud (B, L)
After breakfast, we'll have a short paddling introduction and brief excurion on the water before heading to Rovinj's archipelago, which consists of 19 islands, islets and rocks. There, you will also find Banjole Island, the so-called "seven hair" island because of its rare plant covering, which is interesting because of its cave that for the most part is under the water. After heading toward Palud, we will not miss a visit to the St. John lighthouse, built in 1853. It is located on the most distant islet of the small archipelago in front of Rovinj. Today's kayak adventure will end in Palud Cove, which is the only special ornithological reserve in Istria. Ornithologists have recorded most that 200 bird species and since hunters are not allowed in the park, there are also a lot of pheasants, partridges and quails as well as various types of wild duck, water-hens, grebes and common snipes, garden warblers, golden orioles, woodpeckers, tawny pipits and shrieks. Besides thick authentic forests with beautiful specimens of pubescent and holm oak, the northern part of the wetlands includes a real rainforest with huge willow trees. Before returning to Rovinj, we will stop in one of the best olive oil mills, so you can be acquainted with olive oil production and have an opportunity to taste one of the best Istrian olive oils.
Day 3: Biking Parenzana Trail (B, L)
After breakfast, we'll drive from Rovinj to Groznjan (40 min), where we will start biking on the legendary route of the Parenzana, the former narrow-gauge railway line which deeply penetrates into the Istrian peninsula and from Porec to Trieste connecting 33 Istrian cities. Passing through magnificent rolling landscapes and lively vineyards, we will arrive for lunch and head toward Porec with its famous 6th century Euphrasius Basilica.
Day 4: Hiking and Caving Pazin-Beram (B, L, D)
After breakfast, we'll transfer to Pazin where we'll start our hiking tour, which goes alongside Kastel, over the Pazin cave bridge and uphill to Gortan Hill. We'll continue the path to St. March on Skrilinah's Church, Findrle Hill and through Dusani village. After hiking and visiting the cave to the medieval castle of Istria (every visitor from Dante to Jules Verne has been impressed by this castle), you'll visit a farm house where you'll learn to cook authentic Istrian dishes (complete with 3 course meal).
Day 5: Biking Slovenian Tuscany (B, D)
After breakfast, we head to the Kolovrat range where structures of the third Italian line of defense are densely tossed on both sides of the state border. A special approach to the restoration of these positions was the use of original building materials from the time of the First World War. Your guide will be waiting with bikes to start the tour through the Brda region, known as the Slovenian Tuscany and wine region. You'll pedal from village to village experiencing the natural and cultural heritage of this region. Brda is a land of castles, vineyards and small white churches, often situated at the top of the hills overlooking the villages. You'll stop for a wine tasting and stay overnight at a boutique hotel in Brda.
Day 6: Rafting or Caonyoning Soca River (B, D)
We will start our journey early in the morning by heading toward the beautiful alpine world of the Slovene Northwest. After crossing Vrsic, Slovenia's highest mountain pass, a magnificent view of the Julian Alps will open up. This is the world of the emerald green Soca River, where we will visit one of its springs. We will then embark on an adrenaline-filled rafting trip down the wild rapids of Europe's most beautiful river. If you prefer, you can try canonying, which involves meandering over to Susec and Fratarca, to swim in crystal-clear pools, slip through both small and large waterfalls, slide along with taboggans and descent into the canyons to Kobarid, which is an idyllic village at the heart of the Julian Alps that is popular with paragliders.
